On 16 May 2023 the French judiciary issued an international arrest warrant for the Banque du Liban governor Riad Salameh on charges of embezzling public funds and money laundering after he failed to appear for questioning in Paris, followed by Germany and an Interpol red notice; Lebanon refused to extradite him and the Lebanese judiciary banned him from travel.
