The security forces (the gendarmerie) surrounded the Chiyah factory to disperse the sit-in and break the strike by force. The shooting and clashes left victims, among them the worker Yousef al-Attar and the citizen Fatima Khawaja (hit by a stray bullet in her house next door), as well as many wounded.
