●Ghandour factory protests

Some 1,500 workers, men and women, at the Ghandour sweets and biscuit factories (the Chiyah and Choueifat branches) declared an open-ended strike. The strike protested at harsh working conditions and demanded the application of the new wage law (which provided a 5% raise), permission to join the confectionery workers' union, and an end to arbitrary dismissals.
