On 21 November 2005 the Islamic Resistance attacked Israeli positions in the divided village of Ghajar under wide covering fire along the border, in an attempt to capture soldiers; four of its fighters were martyred and Israeli soldiers wounded, and Israel shelled the villages of the South. The largest confrontation since the liberation, preceded by Israel's abduction of the fisherman Mohammed Farran off Naqoura. Israel handed over the bodies of three of the fighters at Ras al-Naqoura days later; it used to hand over bodies for fear that the resistance would carry out capture operations to recover them.
