On 16 and 17 March 1977, hours after the assassination of Kamal Jumblatt, Druze gunmen attacked Christian villages in the Chouf (Mazraat al-Chouf, Brih, Maasser al-Chouf and others) and killed some 150 civilians; the first wave of Christian displacement from the Mountain, after which the Syrian army entered the villages.
