●Barak elected on a pledge to leave Lebanon within a year

On 17 May 1999 Ehud Barak won the Israeli premiership over Netanyahu on an election promise to take the army out of Lebanon within a year, after its mounting losses and the "Four Mothers" movement; the promise hastened the collapse of Lahd's army's morale.
