⚔Four UN observers killed at the Khiam post

On 25 July 2006 heavy missiles destroyed the international observers' post near the Khiam prison (which the raids had destroyed days earlier), killing four officers from Austria, Canada, China and Finland despite repeated calls to UNIFIL. The same day the landings on the hills and the systematic destruction of the houses of Bint Jbeil, Maroun al-Ras, Aitaroun and Khiam began, with phosphorus shells; Washington refused to condemn the killings, and the United Nations warned of the difficulty of forming a peacekeeping force.
