On 26 July 2006 Israel announced the occupation of Bint Jbeil overnight, and its soldiers woke to tight ambushes at the Saff al-Hawa triangle; the enemy admitted eight dead from the Golani brigade and 22 wounded, while sources from inside spoke of 14 dead and 16 wounded, with Merkava tanks destroyed on the Bint Jbeil, Aitaroun and Maroun al-Ras axes, and 130 rockets on Haifa, Acre, the Carmel and Safed (31 hurt). The enemy's soldiers withdrew from the town on 28 July after heavy losses, and the Northern Command chief Udi Adam said "the aim was not to occupy Bint Jbeil". The same day Mubarak said Egypt "will not enter a war in defence of Lebanon or Hezbollah".
