●Election of Elias Sarkis

On 8 May 1976 parliament, meeting at the Villa Mansour, elected Elias Sarkis president with Syrian support and with the help of Arafat, who allowed the deputies to reach the session, against Raymond Eddé, the National Movement's candidate; the election deepened the rift between Jumblatt and Arafat.
