●Emile Lahoud appointed army commander
PartiesLebanese Army
On 28 November 1989 the Hoss government appointed General Emile Lahoud army commander in place of Aoun, and he began reunifying the units; the first step in rebuilding the army after Taif. With the reunification of the army under his command in 1990, the new government declared the South Lebanon Army an outlaw organisation and stopped paying the salaries of its members, who had drawn them from the Lebanese army until that year, so Lahd's militia became more dependent on Israeli funding (500 to 800 dollars a month per man).
