☠Assassination of the US ambassador

On 16 June 1976 the American ambassador Francis Meloy, the economic counsellor Robert Waring and their driver were abducted at the front line in Beirut and killed; the operation was attributed to the Popular Front, and it led Washington to evacuate its nationals.
