From 15 to 22 February 1987 the Progressive Socialist Party, the Communist Party and the Mourabitoun fought the Amal Movement in West Beirut (the "flag war", because it began with the taking down of a flag) and Amal was driven out of most of its neighbourhoods; it ended with the Syrian army's entry into West Beirut on 22 February.
