On 1 April 2016 the Nusra Front and its allies launched a surprise attack on Tal al-Eis south of Aleppo, which Hezbollah and the Syrian army had taken days earlier; the hill fell and dozens of the party's fighters were martyred in one of its heaviest losses in Syria. It was retaken in July 2016.
