On 22 December 2016 the Syrian army and its allies, Hezbollah and the Iraqi factions in the lead and under air cover, completed the takeover of the eastern districts of Aleppo after a siege and the evacuation of tens of thousands to Idlib; the war's turning point in the regime's favour, which Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in his speech of 9 December counted "the greatest victory".
