●Founding of the "Front for the Liberation of Lebanon from Foreigners"
After the Nahariya operation in April 1979 the Israeli chief of staff Rafael Eitan ordered the Northern Command chief Avigdor Ben-Gal, with Meir Dagan, to set up a secret organisation recruiting Lebanese Maronite, Shia and Druze agents to strike the Palestinians and Syrians in Lebanon "without an Israeli fingerprint". According to Ronen Bergman's book "Rise and Kill First" (2018), Dagan ran the operations without the knowledge of the government and at times of the intelligence services, and the explosives were smuggled from confiscated munitions in oil cans and tins made at kibbutz Mahanayim. Between 1980 and 1983 the Front carried out a series of car bombings in the Lebanese cities, stopped shortly before the 1982 invasion, resumed in 1983, and effectively ended after the Chiyah bombing in December 1983.
