●Resignation of Prime Minister Rashid al-Solh
PartiesGovernmentKataeb (Phalanges) Party
Prime minister Rashid al-Solh gave a speech in parliament accusing the Kataeb Party of the massacre, and noted that the demonstrations in support of the Lebanese army that had set off in the Christian-majority areas after the wounding of Maarouf Saad had made the army look as if it belonged to one group rather than another, which placed its credibility under suspicion for a large part of the Lebanese. He then submitted his resignation in protest and headed for the door to leave the chamber, and a scuffle broke out when the Kataeb deputy Amine Gemayel went after him and grabbed his arm, trying to bring him back to the session to answer him.
