●Richard Murphy: "Mikhael Daher or chaos"

As Amine Gemayel's term ended, the American envoy Richard Murphy agreed with Hafez al-Assad in Damascus on naming the deputy Mikhael Daher president, and told the Christian leaders that the choice was "Daher or chaos". The Lebanese Forces refused and the Christian deputies boycotted the session, so the election could not be held and the matter ended with two governments.
