●Last signs of life from Ron Arad: three letters and two photos
PartiesAmal MovementHezbollahIranIsrael / IDF
During 1987 Israel received three letters in Ron Arad's handwriting and two photographs of him with a beard, proving he was alive in the hands of the Amal Movement; they were the last signs of life, and negotiations for his release failed in 1988. Mustafa Dirani later claimed that Amal had handed him to Hezbollah on 4 May 1988, while another account says Dirani broke from Amal at the start of 1988 taking Arad with him and then handed him to the Revolutionary Guard at the start of 1989. Israel abducted Sheikh Abdel Karim Obeid (1989) and Dirani (1994) to obtain information about him, and the Farkash committee estimated in 2004 that he had died between 1993 and 1997.
