✍Sleiman in Damascus: embassies exchanged with Syria

On 13 August 2008 President Michel Sleiman visited Damascus and agreed with Assad on establishing diplomatic relations and demarcating the border; the first Syrian embassy in Beirut opened in December 2008, in the first official Syrian recognition of Lebanon as an independent state.
