On 13 July 2006 Israel began its policy of displacement: a massacre in Dweir raised the number of martyrs to fifty; the bridges of the South, the Sofar–Mdeirej bridge and the Nahr al-Mot bridge were destroyed to cut the Damascus road; the runways and fuel tanks of Beirut airport were bombed and it closed, as were the al-Manar building in Haret Hreik and its antennas in Baalbek. Israel warned the residents of the southern suburbs to evacuate, and the resistance answered with a statement: bombing the suburbs means bombing Haifa. Two Lebanese army soldiers were martyred and seven wounded.
