On 21 April 1994 Samir Geagea was arrested and charged with the bombing of the Sayidat al-Najat church and the assassinations of Rashid Karami, Dany Chamoun and Elias al-Zayek; he was acquitted of the bombing, convicted of the assassinations, and imprisoned in the defence ministry for 11 years.
