On 16 March 2020 the military court released Amer Fakhoury, "the butcher of Khiam" in Lahd's army, detained since September 2019 on charges of torturing prisoners, on the grounds that the crimes were time-barred, and on 19 March an American helicopter flew him from the embassy to Cyprus; Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on 20 March accused the United States of getting him out and demanded that the judges be held to account.
