On 29 April 2009 the Special Tribunal for Lebanon ordered the release of the four generals (Jamil al-Sayyed, Ali al-Hajj, Raymond Azar, Mustafa Hamdan) after about four years of detention, for insufficient evidence; a blow to the first investigation's course and its witnesses.
