●Mustapha Adib steps down; the French initiative stalls

On 26 September 2020 Mustapha Adib stepped down from forming the government after a dispute over the finance portfolio, to which the Shia duo held fast, and Macron declared that the Lebanese leaders had "betrayed" their commitments; Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah answered on 29 September that the party "is not responsible for the failure" and that portfolios are not imposed from abroad.
