On 14 March 2011 Saudi and Emirati forces of the "Peninsula Shield" entered Bahrain to crush the Pearl Roundabout sit-in that had begun on 14 February as part of the Arab Spring; the mostly Shia protests were suppressed, and Hezbollah held a "solidarity with the Arab peoples" rally on 19 March and attacked the Saudi intervention.
