On 8 January 2020 the Iranian Revolutionary Guard fired dozens of ballistic missiles at the Ain al-Asad base in Anbar and a base in Erbil in reply to Soleimani's assassination; no Americans were killed but more than a hundred were injured, and the Guard mistakenly shot down a Ukrainian airliner over Tehran the same day.
