●Hariri retracts the accusation against Syria

On 6 September 2010 Saad Hariri said in an interview with "Asharq al-Awsat" that accusing Syria of his father's assassination had been "a political accusation" and a mistake, and that the false witnesses had misled the investigation; the retraction came at the height of the rapprochement with Damascus and months before his government was brought down.
