⚰The Baghdad al-Aimmah bridge stampede

On 31 August 2005 some a thousand Shia pilgrims were martyred by crushing and drowning on the al-Aimmah bridge in Baghdad after a rumour of a suicide bomber in the procession visiting Imam al-Kadhim, following mortar fire on the crowd; the largest loss of life in a single day since the invasion. Hezbollah held a memorial for the martyrs in the southern suburbs on 2 September.
