On 14 May 2018, the seventieth anniversary of the Nakba, the American embassy in Jerusalem was opened in execution of Trump's decision, and the same day the Israeli army killed more than 60 Palestinian demonstrators at the Gaza fence at the height of the "Great March of Return", which had begun on 30 March. Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah spoke on Quds Day at Maroun al-Ras near the border on 8 June and said the move was part of an American plan to impose terms on the Palestinians and that the veto would block any condemnation, and that Trump's withdrawal from the nuclear deal proved that "no one in the world can trust the commitments of the United States".
