⚔Allied invasion of Syria and Lebanon and the independence pledge

On 8 June 1941 British and Free French forces entered Lebanon and Syria to expel the Vichy government, and General Catroux proclaimed the independence of the two countries in de Gaulle's name; independence was formally declared on 26 November 1941, but the Mandate remained in force in practice until 1943.
