On 18 January 2016 Samir Geagea announced from Maarab his support for Michel Aoun's candidacy for the presidency, in a historic reconciliation between the Lebanese Forces and the Free Patriotic Movement after a quarter-century of enmity; it paved the way for Aoun's election in October.
