On 21 May 2008 the Lebanese parties signed an agreement in Doha under Qatari–Arab sponsorship: the election of Michel Sleiman, a unity government with a blocking third for the opposition, and the 1960 electoral law; it ended 18 months of paralysis after the events of 7 May.
