In the first half of 2002 the Jordanian authorities detained a group of Hezbollah members on the charge of delivering weapons to the West Bank; Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah stated on 16 June that they were from the party: "We do not disown our brothers." Rafik Hariri mediated, then Bashar al-Assad and Emile Lahoud intervened through an extradition request followed up by General Security, and they were later released.
